What this table tells you
  1. AP papers: math is always there (4 × 5 written + MCQ). English changed from "Focus + translation" (2023) to "Focus + letter" (2024) to "grammar + paragraph + sentence making" (Jan 2026). The 31 Oct circular says "English Language Proficiency 30" — exactly the Jan 2026 form, so prepare that first, but be ready for a Focus or a letter.
  2. SO IT / Officer IT papers: no written math, but Bangla Focus, translation both ways and 10 GK questions.
  3. Non-tech is about 25% of all marks. Most candidates score about the same in IT; these 75 marks often decide the merit list.

0.3Strategy

Negative marking (−0.25): when to guess

Expected mark of a guess = p × 1 − (1 − p) × 0.25  ⇒  positive when p > 0.2
Situation (4 options)Chance correctExpected markDecision
Blind guess1/4+0.06Skip — tiny gain, high variance
One option surely wrong1/3+0.17Answer
Two options surely wrong1/2+0.375Always answer
Math answer you computed but are unsure ofusually > 1/2> +0.375Answer (re-check by plugging in)
Traps Do not guess on current-affairs GK you have never seen — options are often all plausible. Never change a calculated answer to a "feels right" option. Fill the OMR circle fully; a half-filled circle can be read as wrong.

How to write written math for full marks

The 5-step layout (each 5-mark problem)
  1. Let — define every unknown with its unit: "Let the width be x m."
  2. Equation — write the condition from the question as an equation, numbered (i), (ii).
  3. Solve — one operation per line; keep fractions (2/3, not 0.67) — there is no calculator.
  4. Box the answer with its unit: "∴ Length = 16 m".
  5. Check — one line putting the answer back into the condition.
Steps carry marks: a correct method with a slip in arithmetic still earns most of the 5 marks; a bare answer earns little.
Example of the layout AP 17.01.2026 Let the speed of the stream be s km/h. Downstream speed = 12 + s, upstream = 12 − s.
Same distance, upstream time = 3 × downstream time ⇒ downstream speed = 3 × upstream speed
12 + s = 3(12 − s) ⇒ 4s = 24 ⇒ s = 6 km/h
Check: downstream 18, upstream 6 → ratio 3 : 1 ✔

How to write written English for full marks

ItemWhat earns the marksWhat loses them
Grammar (10 items)Write the full corrected form clearly (e.g. "(A) would have succeeded"); one-line rule if space allowsOverwriting, two answers, copying the whole sentence with a new error
Sentence makingKeep the given part of speech; 10–18 words; the sentence must show the meaning (context), not just contain the word; underline the wordChanging the form (judicious → judiciously); "This is a judicious word."
Paragraph / FocusOne block for a paragraph (150–200 words); Focus: intro → current scene in Bangladesh → 3 benefits → challenges → way forward → one-line conclusion; a title on topFake statistics, bullet lists in a paragraph, long complex sentences with errors
LetterDate, recipient, subject line, salutation, 3 short paragraphs, "Yours faithfully", nameMissing subject line; "Yours sincerely" with "Dear Sir"
TranslationMeaning, not word-for-word; right tense; banking terms (waive, default loan, financial inclusion)Skipping a sentence; literal idioms
Handwriting ruleShort, correct sentences beat long, impressive ones. Leave a line between items, number them exactly as in the question, and write the paragraph title in capitals.
